Anyone give me advice on a alow Cholesterol Diet?

I had a doctor appt.yesterday and my results were not good for my cholesterol.It was higher than it is supposed to be and the doctor wants to put me on medication and for me to change my diet as well.Does anyone have any ideas what foods to avoid?Thanks

Have you noticed that a lot of people are asking about a Low Cholesterol Diet lately? And everybody who answers gives a different answer? There is so much conflicting information out there about what The Best Diet is. Here is my opinion:

It is best not to eat any cholesterol. You do not need to eat cholesterol, as the liver will make all the cholesterol that your body needs. It is also best to avoid saturated fats and trans fats. So what this means, in terms of actual food, is to avoid animal products. Avoid fatty foods, fried foods, and processed foods. What you should eat are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. There are a lot of books out there with recipes that fit these general guidelines. Look for books by Caldwell Esselstyn, John McDougall, Dean Ornish, Neal Barnard, and Joel Fuhrman. It is hard work to make a big change in your diet, but it can really bring your cholesterol down. Good luck.
